2024 square bar, in cold finished or extruded form, has high to moderate strength, very good machinability, good weldability with improved stress corrosion cracking resistance. 2024 is also known as “aircraft alloy” in machining rod. It is used for cold heading and roll threading applications. 2024 has high strength and excellent fatigue resistance. It is excellent on parts where good strength –to-weight ratio needed. Machinability is good in heat-treated and annealed condition. Commonly used for aircraft structural components, truck wheels, medical instruments, and screw machine products.
